Since 1996, nearly every car is required to have an Onboard diagnostic 2 (OBD2) system in place. It is also required for all trucks, motorcycles, and all-purpose vehicles. By adding an OBD2 diagnostic system to your already installed inventory, save yourself time and money and instead run to the auto mechanic for faulty diagnostics. To use the OBD2 Scanner, first unplug your vehicle from the power source. Then, connect the OBD2 scanner cable to your personal computer. Next, download and save the software program of your choice onto your hard drive. Next, install the program into the computer by following the onscreen instructions. You may also choose to install the scanner by inserting the OBD2 scanner card into the PCI slot in your computer.
Once you have completed installing and downloading the software, you will want to launch the OBD2 Scanner. The OBD2 Scanner will then detect all of the vehicle’s computer systems, which will include but not limited to the power train, coolant, engine controls, fuel system, emission control, interior air conditioning systems and the control module. Next, it will display the current status of each of the codes that you currently have stored. If you notice that one of the codes is not functioning, then simply click on the “Codes” option which will bring up a list of codes that are currently functioning.
